The Uniques Volume 1

It's an indy comic that's better than the big two. If you haven't checked out the Uniques, do yourself a favor and download a digital copy today.
I've been a fan of Adam Withers' artwork since I saw it at the MotorCity Comicon, and when I saw that he and Comfort Love had produced a comic book, I had to have it.
Much like Darkhorse's The End League, The Uniques uses familar archtypes to help engage the reader in a new comic universe that immediately feels familiar. You have the X-men type family, the Captain America character, a Superman and a Batman. With those archtypes, mix in a little Incredibles, and you'll start to get a feel for The Uniques.
The first trade volume is all about forming the team and introducing you to the universe. It's the beginning of the Justice League with cooler characters.
The Good
Comfort Love's and Adam Withers' artwork is incredible. They have a unique style that reminds me of Joe Mad, Chris Bachalo, and Pascal Ferry. It's a managa-esque style that allows of a lot of variations.
The plot is extensive, and you'll be immediately sucked into the universe of The Uniques.
The touches of humor are perfectly timed.
The support Web site is a model other publishers should be using. It has everything you need as a fan to really dig into the book.
The Bad
There is a lot of dialogue with a really small lettering font, and you are dumped right in the middle of the action. Without the carefully planned hero archtypes I would have been lost. The confusion of a new universe was to be expected, but the small font was hard on old eyes.
Although I love the artwork, there are some panels where the details are so fine as to disappear.
